⌨️ What’s The Real Reason Behind Your Programming Journey?
Jan 16, 2025
Where do we all start?
I don't think that many of us thought that we would become coders. That's not how it usually starts.
In 90% of cases, it starts with a Problem. And it can be anything. Sometimes it's impossible to solve it manually, other times it's just a waste of time.
But sooner or later, we come to the realization that we are either stuck doing the same thing over and over, or we look for alternatives.
And programming is often a way out of that cycle. But how did you get interested in programming?
Did you start programming because of a Problem?
Revit is not perfect...
Revit is a massive software targeted at all disciplines. So, as the saying goes "Jack of all trades - Master of none". As a result - we all have a lot of problems working in Revit.
Probably, that's the reason why you are reading this newsletter about programming in Revit, am I right?
If that's the case, I would love to hear more about it. What kind of problems pushed you to start coding? Where did your programming journey begin?
I would appreciate it if you hit reply and shared it in a few words.
I bet it was because of endless repetitive tasks.
But I might be wrong...
My Problem
Let me begin.
My programming journey started many years ago when I worked on a high-rise project. As you know, large projects tend to get repetitive really quickly.
I was working on a 34 stories building with 465 apartments.
So, even if I had a task that took me 5 minutes on each level, it wouldn’t take 3 hours (34×5 min). Instead, it would take far more. Every time I changed the level, I had to wait for a view to load up, and I lost focus every time. And this waste of time compounds a lot...
I had days where I felt like I did nothing for the whole day because of all that time wasted between tasks.
The final straw was the need for parametric modeling in Revit. There was no way to achieve what bosses wanted manually, so I had to dive into code. And that's how I started.
But how did you get started?
Extra: Testimonial Highlight
I love getting testimonials from real students in my course. Here is the latest from Regis.
He just finished his 6th lesson and already developed a solution to a problem he had for a long time.
Probably that's only one of the problems that brought him to programming in search of a solution.
👀 I wonder what he will achieve by the end of the course.
